NJASK GO BYE BYE

Every year the teachers like to prepare the students for the NJASK. but you never notice how nerve wrecking it is untill your sitting in that chair ten minutes before the test even begins. But i dont hsve to worry about that anymore ecause the njask is DONE!!!  I dont know what i was so worried about, it was super easy and i had plenty of time.( eh ) I guess the teachers this year really worked hard to make the NJASK easier than ever. Maybe i will miss the NJASK, its the only week in the whole shool year with no homework, and you get to watch movies all day( except for spanish:\, that was back to learning). our teachers really helped us prepare for the big test. I guess the old saying is " everything isnt always as it seems " becuase next year, im not going to worry so much.

One Hectic Day

 Sam and MaddiJanes mom worked very hard to make a good living. Sam and MaddiJane were sitting on the couch watching their favorite t.v show when they heard something outside.


" Did you hear that?" Sam said as he walked to the window.


"Calm down, its just mom complaining about her old car again." MaddiJane answered. MaddiJane and Sams mom has been complaining about her car ever since they got a flat tire while driving to the beach.


"We should help her, I mean, she always complains about her car and she always tries her hardest to make us happy".


"That's a good idea! We should repaint her car so it would look even better!" MaddiJane said so proudly.


"Well she left for work so lets go!" The two kids left to the garage to get the paint.


"What color? Blue?" Suggested Sam. MaddiJane agreed and the two siblings worked on painting the car. They worked hard hours in the noon sun when Maddie pointed out something.


"S-S-Sam? Why is half the car purple? Maddi discovered


"What do you mean?" Sam looked at the car from Maddis point of view and his face went white. He automatically looked at the paint and realized that the horrible surprised was his fault.


" We can fix it, all we have to do is paint over the purple with blue." Sam suggested, hoping Maddi would agree.


"Not in ten seconds we can't".


"Why in ten?"


"Because mom is coming down the street right now!" Maddi yelled in a panic.


"It's ok, the car isn't that big." Sam said confidently.


"Sam! Its a HUGE can YOU-" Maddi and Sam realized it was to late.


"Surpri- What happened to my car?" Maddi and Sam's mom asked.
Maddi tried to explain.
"We just felt bad so we wanted to help. But then everything went all wrong.


"Come here you two." Mom said calmly


"I appreciate what you two did but I came home early because somebody was coming to fix the car for me. Maddi and Sam's mouth dropped.


"Why don't we go out to eat for all your hard work." Maddie and Sam's mom asked.


"Now that's a good idea." Sam said happily. The happy family left at sunset and was enjoying their evening together. All was well.

          Great people, did great things, when ever pessimistic said it was impossible, the only thing going through the great achievers mind was, " the impossible is possible." According to Napoleon Bonaparte, " Impossible is a word only to be found in the dictionary of fools." This was something that when Napoleon said it, he was proud of it. The impossible is possible, but only when one believes they can do it, then they will succeed.

            As a sixth greater, I do get they feeling that what I want to achieve is so far away, and that I will never get there. This feeling is the feeling of impossibility. When I was in third grade, we had to learn the multiplication table up to the number twelve. It took me up to two weeks to get all of them right. In between those two hard weeks, I felt like i was never going to get them, I would always get so close, or it would be totally wrong. I told my dad that i just cant do this, it was too hard. I told him that a nine year old cant do this, its impossible. But my dad told me that all you have to do is work hard and practice, and in the future, you will succeed. So of course, i practiced and practiced and worked hard, but nothing came. So i asked my dad when will i succeed, and he said i will. Then after that i be came really mad and determined to get the facts right. Now, i can get all the multiplication skills off the top of my head. I knew that when i was nine years old, i was a fool. And now, the impossible, is possible.

          In a time of slavery, the slaves all sang a song and tried to get to the north in any way they can. They never gave up, even though their masters told them that it was impossible, the slaves knew that their masters were fools. During the civil rights, Martin Luther King Jr made one of the greatest speech in the world. He once said " I have a dream" A dream that he never gave up on. He is one of the reasons why this country is great to all different kinds of races.  He didn't give up even when he didn't succeed. He failed allot of times, but it came down to his dream coming true. He was not a fool even when people said he was of trying. This man is a great example of this quote.

          If you never make mistakes, you are not really trying. If you don't make a mistake, you are not really human. Great people made a lot of mistakes. Edisonn once said " I never failed 1,000 times, i found 1,000 ways not to do it. Even when he failed, the thought of impossibility never came to him. One day, you will have to face a time when you think that your dream will never come, that it will be impossible, but all you have to do is keep on trying, and in the end, the out come will always be the greatest one.

SUMMER IS DEFINITLY GOIN ON MY WISH LIST

Someone once said that time is a precious thing and that it is not to be wasted. The Edison school board  has decided to shorten the days of summer. This will affect the students from k-12. Summer is something that is on every kids wish list. If the school board shorten the days of summer break, then that means more complaints from the parents, the less of a nice break students have from school and the less of pressure.

Summer is a must have thing. It gives a nice break for students who have lots of homework and school work. When there is alot of homework, that means the less of free time. Since the edison school board already gives 183 days of school each year, and on those days you get either an essay to do, or a test, or even maybe just regular homework, that takes the time out of your regular day. Everyones day is the same, you wake up, go to school, do school work, homework, take a shower, and eat dinner. And in between all that theres sports, breakfast, lunch, and even maybe a little t.v. Summer makes everyday different. There is nice weather on most days, so either if you go outside, or go swimming in a pool, each day will be exciting and new.

Summer also gives students less of the jumbo sized pressure. No teacher wants their students to fail, of not do their homework. But teachers dont understand that your day cant juist be all about school work. You want everyday to be different, exciting, and you want to explore new things. With so much school work amd pressure, those things arent going to happen. The pressure that is on a little girls shoulder to do the school work is too much. You dont want to fail, and you dont want your teacher to get mad at you. on top of that, you dont want to go to sleep late because you are so tired, and you dont want to miss your free time. Bill Cosby once said that I dont know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody. It may seem like students want to please their teachers all the time, but thats becuase some students actually do that. Summer takes you away from all that. Its a time where a kid can just be a kid.

Students will definitly complain that there is less of summer break, and with  that, theres a price.( i had to put this in.... if you get it.... KARMA!!~!!)  Kids will complain to their parents if they have to to get what they want. then, here comes the phone calls. Parents will say that their child is always complaunung about school and jow summer break is their only break. Studies show that more then 60% of kids dont get enough excerisice. Excersicing could be as fun as playing tag with friends, of riding a bycicle. When its a school night, you have so much homework that you can hardly even go out side ans enjoy the weather. But when its summer, kids can go outside everyday. Its actually been said that more than 50% of kids get more excersice on summer break when there away from school, then when there actually in school. With the less of summer, the more the complaints.

With the less summer, the more the complaints, the nore the pressure,and the less of a nice break. Summer is the everyday kids favorite seasin beacuase they're actaully away from school. Its a time when you could have fun and enjoy your self. When kids feel like they havent been more free. With the less of summer break, the more students you will upset

Dear Superintendent O’Malley,

          “America has believed that in differentiation, not uniformity, lies the path of progress. It acted on this belief, it has advanced human happiness, and it has prospered.”  (Lois D. Brandies) In America, we have freedom in not only speech, but in indivuality and expression. This freedom lays the path of progress, and also has advanced human happiness. But how many of us actually experience this freedom. America plays a big part in freedom, as citizens, we play the role of being different. A big part of teens search in his or her identity is through clothing. We play the role of being diverse. Everyone around you is different than you in some ways. The unity of freedom has never relied on uniformity. Uniforms are breaking that chain of being diverse; therefore, uniforms are not a good idea. A uniform doesn’t allow you to express your uniqueness and individuality. Families that are above poverty lines might not get the financial aid from the district that is needed, and there has no significant impact on improving academic achievement by wearing a uniform.

          Wearing uniforms means that you have to hide your uniqueness and individuality. A uniform doesn’t make options for kids. If you block the freedom of choice, you block the freedom of mind. A big part in a teen’s search in which they really are is by the clothes they wear. A kid’s mind has to have so many paths instead of one. With uniforms, who are closing all these other paths and just using one. When a kid wears gothic colors, it shows their uniqueness or individuality. It tells people things such as “oh, that person is just like me”. You will never know what makes you unique or different if you wear uniforms. Uniforms for school are not a good idea. If you wear them for two, maybe even six days a week, then there is no being sure that you have found your real inner self yet. Without showing off your uniqueness and individuality, you will not find who you are and will show off dullness. Also, with dullness comes unhappiness, which leads to some things bigger.

          Families that are in poverty can barely afford to buy nice clothes, and uniforms only make it worse because they may not get the financial aid needed from the district. Families that are very poor can hardly be able to afford regular clothes. Therefore now, they would have to buy uniforms, another thing that they can hardly afford. Uniforms would just put more weight and it will be more difficult for the poor. Some people say that instead of purchasing expensive name brand clothing, you’ll only have to buy the uniforms. Most kids buy the uniforms and their clothing too. They’re not just going to wear the uniforms. Uniforms are just adding pressure for people who are above poverty lines.

          There is no significant impact on students improving their academic achievements. There is no significant impact on school achievements for students if you wear uniforms. Uniforms will just be a greater distraction because many people don’t like uniforms. They will try to ruin it as much as they can and instead of paying attention, students will be distracted by the uniforms. Uniforms may have a greater impact on school achievements. There is no hard evidence that it does however. Some people will not care if they’re breaking school rules by making the uniforms their own.

          America is a diverse country with the path of individuality and uniqueness quickly becoming longer. With uniforms however, it will get shorter. Uniforms lead to the decrease of being able to express your uniqueness and individuality. It will cause even more problems for the people who are above poverty lines and has no significant increase in academic improvement. Students should not wear uniforms. The United States is a diverse country and its citizen would like to keep it that way.

          Every day, you see people walk by with the same old boring boots. Then you go somewhere else and you see the same type of boots you just saw ten minutes ago. Then you notice that that Boot Company only makes the same type of boots.  We would like your news channel to commercialize our product. It is new and is going to be very popular very quickly. If you are tired of the same old boots then I have some news for you because now there are Uggs!!!

          Uggs are new and improves boots. They are the most popular women’s sheepskin boot in the whole world. With the fur inside, it is more comfortable than other boots. They are made out of fur to keep you warm and ready for the winter. So now you could avoid layers of socks.

          Uggs are also unique. They come in not only basic colors, but they come in neon too!!! When you wear plain old boots, customers have to worry about whether it is going to match their outfit but with Uggs, it will go with anything making it the best boots around. They even come in different styles! For small children, they have swirls, for teenagers you have zippers or buttons, and for adults you have fur outside of the Uggs to make it original. There are even more selections to choose from. And to make it even better, to show our customers how much we appreciate them, for every two purchases, we allow them to design their own Ugg!! It is our new way of giving back to our faithful customers.  It will even never be released to the public so you can have the only pair.

           I would like you to commercialize my product because it is new and it is great for every age. As I said before, Uggs are the new and improves boots, they are unique, they are warm and stylish boots that get you ready for any weather, and even though Uggs are expensive you won’t regret having them. These one of a kind boots will get very popular, very quickly, and if you commercialize our product, not only will it help our company, but it will help you as well.

Reflection

I loved the persuasive commercial!!!! Its was fun and exciting!!!! I like my perice  because there's dogs in it, it's weird, and its special. I feel I am good at editing, acting, and video taping. Some areas I could improve on is expression, vocabulary, and being more serious. Persuasive essay writing techniques and strategies I'd like to try next time are band wagin, counterargument, and bringing more people. The part of the writing process I enjoyed most is the script because it was easy, we got to make it our own, and we made a video out of it. My goals for next time is to put more dialoge, less narrorating, and use more persuasive techniques.  Three things I learned about myself throughout this project are we could write a poem, we arfe creative, and we could edit. Readers will see my mentors authors writing craft in my essay when i read the sections are about the poem, the claims, and persuasive techniques. Overral, I really enjoyed it!!

Hello!!!! My name is Elena Elias and i would like you to put our commercial on t.v. Now i am not demanding you to put our commercial on t.v. I understand that you have alot of people begging for an opportunity to be on t.v, but our commercial will not be one to regret, or forget. Our commercial that we want to be put on t.v is called, ReknUggs. ReknUggs is a commercial about a movie coming out in theaters but wil be out on dvd first to catch the people's eye. This commercial will show the main idea and clips for the fantasy/fiction movie.  Thus, leaving it a mystery for the audience. This will catch their attention. This movie isn't just an old movie, it's a movie for all ages of kids to enjoy and watch. When was the last time you sat down and watched a great movie with your family. This movie will bring your family together and have a great time at the same time. This trailer is about a horrible ogre who falls in love with a beautiful princess who is cursed. The curse can only be broken wiht a true loves kiss. But will the ogre get his chance to be able to change and find the love of his life with true loves kiss? Now tell me, how can you turn down an offer like this?!?!?

That One Commercial

There thousands of videos out there right now. Some are even in the making. But that one video that i like is the Snickers commercial. When the guys and this one grandma are playing football, and one pf the guys says to the grandma that you play like a grandma. Then the grandma goes to her girlfriend and the girlfriend gives the grandma a snickers bar. Once the grandma takes a bite, and the grandma turns into a 20 year old guy. I dont get that because i guess it's saying that the snicker bar gives syou energy, but its not  a energy bar. I really liked this video because i thought it was really funny when the grandma gets takled on to the ground and the dude starts yelling at them. Yea i know, thats not nice but you have to admit, it is really funny

College Unit

I have learned alot during our college and career unit. I've learned how to do reserch, how to write a resume, even how to write a great college essay. The one most important thing that I learned most of all, was to make sure you know what, and understand what everything is, and not to be such a big procrastinator. When you get something, you shouldn't wait on the last minute to do it, do it the day after you get it. I've learned how to answer questioned that take you deep into thoughts, and I've also learned to be prepared for what you are up against. What i mean by that is to always take some time and do a little research about the job you applied for, whether it's a pathetic job at McDonalds, or a real job like a doctor. That way, when it gets time for that nerve recking day, you'll be prepared for the worst. Never do anything the last minute, whether it is a current event, of studying for a big exam, or even maybe doing a resume. These things take time, and or thinking. Now, you may think, oh well I'll just stay up late like I usually do. That might be the case, but not the best decsion you have ever made.  

College Essay: My Dad

Family is one of the most important things in life. They will always be there for you when you are in the deepest trouble. There is one person who you eventually look up to, not as a family member, but something much more. A person who pops up every where through the deepest of memories, and through the toughest of times. This brave and courages person is my dad.


My father is one of the most wisesed, and smartest people I will ever know. But, what is the difference between wise, and smart. These two words are like twins, they seem the same, but there is always a difference between the two. A wise person is a person who has alot of meaning in what they say. A person who is clever and knows what to do even if you're going through the toughest rock. On the other hand, a smart person is someone who has a lot of knowlege in a different way. Suppose you are going down a rode and you have two paths. Which one will you choose. A wise person will say " My father said to never under estimate your instintcs and put your best foot foward." and with that he went to his right. A smart person said " Well, your father wasn't very smart, so he couldn't possibly be right." and with that he went to his left. The next day the wise person made it home, while the smart person was still confused down his path. My father has both wise and smart by his side, which makes me admire him even more.


Trust is one of the most important qualities, something that my dad is very fond of. My father has always trusted me no matter what. He always said " trust is hard, because if you trust the wrong person, things will go down hill." I have always trusted him. Whether he told me when you are in a bad situation, stay calm to make the situation right. I found that what he said was true, and used it when ever I am in a sticky situation. He always told me to trust yourself and you will find that trust, is very usefull.


The quality of calmness. This has always been so hard to master for many people. Something that my dad has already mastered a long time ago. When nine eleven happened, my dad was working in New York city for Verizon. There was alot of caohs then, but my dad just stayed calm. Unlike most people, they were in alot of panic. But my dad just watched the news, and he found out that there was a subway still opened  and thats the way he got home. When I am scared to death, I always talk or call my dad. He always knows what to do. He usually says to stay calm, clear your mind, and restrace your steps.


My dad has all of these four qualities, trust, calmness, smart, and wise. One day, I will also have these four qualities. Because even though ou think you already have it, you may loose it along the way.




Trust Saying: One day, fire, water, and trust were walking in the woods. " If you loose me, just look for smoke, thats where I'll be at." Fire said. " If you loose me, look for a feild of flowers, that's where I'll be at." Water said. " Well, you better not loose me, beecause if you do, you'll never find me again." Trust said.

Technology..........

Technology has improved the lives of many........ but just how much? There are now things such as computers, television, cellphones, and ipods. Sure, these things are fun and now a drug to children.


Techonology is now one of the biggest things in the world!! At home, in the car, walking, exercising, and even doing homework. Now we can go online and search up anything we desire. For instance, a student doing math homework doesn't know what 12 x 134 is. Instead of asking a parent or teaher to help who understand how to do multiplcation with pencil and paper, she goes online and searches the answer on google. Techonolgy has made an easier path in education.  Some people use their i pods, or computer to listen to music. I do that too, but sometimes i get so addicted to music that I listen to it while I'm doing homework. What's the big deal??? If you were to study while listening to music, your brain absorbs the information, and the music. That's why when you listen to a song all the time; you know the lyrics without looking it up. So while studying, and listening to music at the same time, your brain adsorbs everything and it gets mixed. The next day, during that test, even though you studied for three hours, you're still not going to remember anything at all because of the music that you were listening to. The same thing applies to homework, writing essays, Study Island, or even doing blog posts (even though I'm listening to music right now, guilty) One of the reasons people procastinate is because of technology, I do it too. One second, I'll be saying " Anthony!!!! Get off the computer I have to do homework!!!!"(jerk) Five seconds later I'll be on youtube looking up something stupid that amuses me. Tons of students do it. Then we end up not doing it at all.

Welcome to our class Mr. Carrol!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you enjoyed your day at Mrs. Patalano's class!!! My name is Elena Elias. I came from Lincoln Elementary School, and I am twelve years old. In my free time, I like to play sports such as soccer, laugh and hang out with my friends. I like alot of things in Middle School like, seeing my friends in the hallway, having four minutes between classes, and how in gym we play games. My most favorite thing about Middle School is how you don't stay in one class and time goes by faster. If  I don't like one class, in 46 min I get to go to a different class. The one thing that I really hate about english is that we have to do essays a certain way,  how the teacher wants you to set the paper up, or how long it has to be. I realize that you can't have just one paragraph in an essay, but I don't get why it has to be a certain length.The one thing I do like in english is how we students and teachers have a fair share of work we do. The teaher takes time to do the work she/he wants us to do. For example, the teacher just doesn't say, take out your book and answers, so and so. That just means that the teacher didn't put work into what the student are doing. My strength standing up to others and being strong. If a friend is being bullied, I would shut the person up and tell them to go get a life. One of my weaknesses is getting distracted. I get distracted alot with my surroundings. Sometimes I look out the window, or talking to the people surrounding me. One thing you should know about me is that I am, I guess you could call it an average student. I get good grades, if I do poorly, I would do my best to catch up, but I am a very active talker. So if you yell at me for talking, don't be surprised.

Our english class is my favorite class. We always talk and Mrs. Patalano gives time to listen. Our class is also very funny. Our teacher is very hard working and I can tell she takes pride in her job. The very best thing I like about our class is how much fun we have. Our class is very bright and our teacher is one of the most sarcastic person I will ever know, but in a very funnny way. My favorite activity we do is when we do the grammer sheet because we get alot of fun stories out of the wrok sheet. The one thing I don't like about the activities is acutally, I really don't have anything that I don't like. Everything thing we do is fun. In the begging of class we do our regular everyday grammer sheet,  

Career goal?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?

I always knew that I had to make a desicion sooner or later. I well, yea most of you know for me is later. If I had to pick though, based on the career choice the computer thing chose for me, i would do out if all of them, honestly, arts. Either arts or soccer.( obviosly for the people who know me TOO well) Not like arts as in, painting, drawing, or free hand, yea no, I stink at that. Arts as in music, singer, actress, director, that stuff. Yes, some of you would be like, Im sure your good at drawing. My stick figures look like a deformed hand. Trust me, I learned the hard way. My plan for being succesful to becoming a famous soccer player is to play in High School, through out College. Train people and referee for a part time job. Then go to try outs for a good soccer team that is succesfull. For arts, well, actually, don't really wanna tell you because nobody knows the other side of me, except  for some people that are like a brother and sister. Even if it is for school work.

New years resolution

People look forward to the New Year because it gives them a second chance to make a first impression. This year I intend to stop biting my nails. I often bite my nails and they turn out to look very gross and this behavior is not good for my health. I hate biting my nails because they turn out looking really gross and it looks like I need to get a manicure. One time, I was at soccer practice, and my coach was giving a speech about the game that we just had. In the middle of the speech, my friend decided to shout out to the world for me to stop biting my nails. Well, that didn’t go to well because the next thing I knew, my coach started making fun of me, and I definitely don’t want that to happen again.  To succeed on my resolution, I will start painting my nails more often so I won’t bite them. This way, since I know that nail polish is toxic, I won’t bite them. If I accomplish this resolution, I’m sure that I will have healthier nails.
